FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about where GAP Education is today and what we are planning. Where something has not been decided yet, we say so.
What is GAP Education?
GAP Education is a Bradford-based charitable organisation in development. We aim to support children, young people, families and communities facing barriers to education, opportunity and participation, through three proposed programmes: GAP Families, GAP Forward and GAP Together.
Is GAP Education a registered charity?
Not yet. GAP Education is preparing its application to register as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. We will publish our charity number on this website once registration is confirmed.
Which areas will GAP Education serve?
We are based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and our work is being developed for communities across the Bradford district. The locations of our first sessions will be confirmed as programmes develop.
Who can benefit from its programmes?
Parents and carers (GAP Families), young people aged 11–16 (GAP Forward), and individuals and families experiencing disadvantage or isolation (GAP Together). Detailed eligibility will be confirmed before each programme opens.
Are programmes currently running?
No. All of our programmes are in development. GAP Families is our proposed first programme. Dates will only be published once funding, staffing, safeguarding arrangements, venues and trustee approval are in place.
Will programmes be free?
Costs have not yet been agreed. Reducing barriers to taking part is central to our purpose, and we will publish clear information about any costs before a programme opens.
How can parents and carers express interest?
Email hello@gapeducation.org.uk. Expressing interest is not enrolment, and please do not include sensitive personal details in your first email.
Does GAP Education support children and young people with SEND?
Yes, supporting families affected by special educational needs and disabilities is part of our purpose. GAP Families includes a session on SEND and inclusive support, and GAP Forward is being designed for young people with a range of needs. We are not a specialist SEND service and will signpost families to statutory and specialist support where needed.
Is GAP Forward an alternative provision or school?
No. GAP Forward is not a registered school, a commissioned alternative provision provider or an active referral service. Any future provision during school hours would need a separate assessment of the legal and commissioning requirements.
How can schools and professionals collaborate?
Email hello@gapeducation.org.uk. We are particularly interested in conversations about gaps in local provision and how we can complement existing support.
Can I volunteer?
We hope to offer volunteering roles as our programmes develop. Register your interest. Any role involving children or adults at risk will follow safer recruitment procedures, including appropriate checks.
How will safeguarding be managed?
No programme will begin until an approved safeguarding policy, a trained Designated Safeguarding Lead, safer recruitment, training, insurance and risk assessments are in place. Our Safeguarding Trustee Lead oversees this. Read our safeguarding information.
How can I support or fund GAP Education?
We are not able to accept donations yet. Funders, businesses and organisations interested in supporting our work are welcome to email admin@gapeducation.org.uk.
How can I contact the team?
Email hello@gapeducation.org.uk for general enquiries and partnerships, or admin@gapeducation.org.uk for governance, funding, complaints and data protection. See our contact page.
